Slide Bushlife Convervancy in Africa Diverse in talents, united in our mission. Learn More

Slide Trips to Africa When planning their first trip to Africa, Nancy’s passion for dogs fueled their choice to visit the Zambezi Valley in Zimbabwe which is known for a healthy population of African Wild Dogs. Specifically, she wanted Nick Murray as a guide; he is known to be one of the area’s experts on dogs. Hugh and Nancy were not disappointed in their choice and enjoyed an incredible week with Nick observing the wild dogs, the iconic elephant bulls, and all the wildlife of Mana Pools. Nick also guided them on a canoeing trip on the Zambezi river – an exciting few days viewing many hippos and crocodiles.

Protecting the Wildlife

During their time with Nick there was a lot of time to discuss conservation and poaching in Mana Pools. They learned that Bushlife Safaris, Nick’s company, had started Bushlife Conservancy to protect the wildlife of the valley. Originally the conservancy started in anti poaching support, collaring elephant bulls and wild dog research. It has now grown to encompass a wide range of wildlife including the highly endangered pangolins. They accomplish these goals by supporting anti poaching efforts for rangers and their families. They also are very involved with health, welfare and educational projects for local communities bordering the parks.

Servicing a Noble Cause

Nancy and Hugh were fortunate enough to be able to participate in a veterinary procedure on an injured young elephant and helped with the rescue of an orphaned antelope. After returning home, they wished to stay involved with the Conservancy’s goals and have become active donors. Nancy also volunteers on the fundraising committee to help promote the mission, visibility and increase donor activity for Bushlife and its amazing work in Mana pools.
